If your Audible app is set to 'restricted' in your device's battery settings, your title won't be allowed to play in the background when you leave the app. For uninterrupted playback while visiting another app or when using our timer, try adjusting these settings on your device.

Samsung battery settings

1. Open your phone’s Settings.
2. Select Apps.
3. Select Audible.
4. Select Battery.
5. Choose from one of these available options:
   • Unrestricted: (Recommended) The Audible app will be permitted to run in the background without any restrictions, and the will continue running and playing sound until you stop it. This option may increase battery usage.
   • Optimized: Your device will learn how you use the app, and will put the app to sleep based on your usage patterns. Playback may still occasionally stop until the phone learns how you use it.
   • Restricted (Not recommended): This option won't allow the app to play in the background when you visit another app, lock your screen, or use the timer.

Pixel battery settings

Pixel devices must have 'Adaptive Battery' turned on and the battery settings for Audible may be set to “Optimized” for the app to run in the background.

 

To turn on the 'Adaptive Battery’ setting: 

1. Open your device's Settings.
2. Tap Battery > Battery Saver.
3. Tap Adaptive Battery > Expand More.
4. Turn on Use Adaptive Battery.

Note: When your battery is very low, adaptive battery may reduce your device's performance
 

Once “Adaptive Battery” is turned on, update the battery settings for the Audible app:

1. Open your device's Settings. 
2. Tap Apps > See all apps.
3. Tap the Audible app > App Battery Usage.
4. Tap Allow background usage.
5. Under 'Allow background usage,' select Unrestricted (Recommended), or Optimized.

Additional tips:

• If you turn off battery optimization for an app, that app can run more while you're not using it, even when adaptive battery is on. This can use more battery.
• If you’re experiencing excessive battery drain when using the Audible app, please make sure you’ve updated to the latest version of the Audible app.
